Description:   The Knik Glacier is located just 50 miles (80 km) east of Anchorage, Alaska on the northern end of the
Chugach Mountains. The ice field averages over 25 miles (40 km) long and over 5 miles (8.0 km) across, making it one
of the largest glaciers in southcentral Alaska. Knik Glacier feeds the 25-mile (40 km) long Knik River which empties into
the Knik Arm section of Cook Inlet.  Knik Glacier  with the
Northern Lights in the sky.  Also know as the Aurora Borealis,
these lights are best viewed in the cold dark winter months in
Alaska.  The face of the gorgeous Knik Glacier is a
towering river of ice 28 miles long, some 5 miles wide, and more than 1,000 feet thick.  Melted water on the surface of the
glacier mirrors the blue of the glacier ice below.
